The Sicily Region
The mystical island of Sicily, is the largest island in the Mediterranean,
separated from the Italian peninsula by the strait of Messina. The spectacular
coastline offers a landscape of fascinating beauty with tiny islands dotted
here and there along the coast- line surrounded by the clear blue sea.

Sicily, laced with history and culture, was a Greek colony and
the Hellenic heritage is remarkable. Sicily somehow has managed
to combine the loveliness of nature with history. The gently rolling
hills that surround the spectacular Greek temples at Agrigento are
covered with almond trees which blossom in all their splendour,
in the springtime, filling the air with the sweet perfume.

Roman remnants can be seen in the towns of at Taormina, Syracuse,
Tindari, Solunto, Eloro and Patti, whilst in Catania and Syracuse
the castles are of Gothic style.
Etna, which keeps the Sicilians on there toes, rises in the centre
of the Volcanic area and is the highest active volcano in Europe
(3,323 Mts)
